Passport size photo in India: sizes, and how many fit on one sheet
20 October 2026 · 4 min read
Admission forms, exam applications, SIM cards, bank accounts: so many forms ask for passport size photos. Here are the sizes you will meet most often in India, and how to get a full sheet printed from one photo on your phone.
Common photo sizes
- Passport size, 35 × 45 mm: the size most Indian forms ask for, including many government applications.
- Stamp size, about 20 × 25 mm: often used on school, college and exam forms.
- 2 × 2 inch (51 × 51 mm): asked for by some visa applications, such as for the USA.
Rules change from time to time, so always check the instructions on your form before printing.
How many fit on a sheet
- 8 passport photos on a 6 × 4 inch photo sheet: ₹60
- 30 passport photos on an A4 sheet: ₹150
- 72 stamp size photos on an A4 sheet: ₹150
A full A4 sheet is the cheapest way to get many copies, for example for a family or for a year of forms.
Taking a good photo at home
- Stand in front of a plain white or light wall, facing a window for soft, even light.
- Ask someone to take the photo from about 1 metre away, with the phone at eye level.
- Look straight at the camera with a neutral face, eyes open, ears visible if possible, and no glasses glare.
- Leave some space above your head. You can crop it exactly when ordering.
